CORRECT. Let me tell you why. What is better balanced engine to begin with? A better balance is in reference to the obvious, less vibration, but also the synchronization of the two pistons degrees of ignition timing. With a 270-degree set up, one piston fires after the first piston reaches 270 degrees also known as Bottom Dead Center. The problem with that is that firing at either Top Dead Center or in this case Bottom Dead Center is not ideal because of the pistons up and down force being converted into rotational force at all. At TDC and BDC linear motion cannot be converted into rotational energy at all! Therefore, to offset this problem, moving the crankshaft from 270 degrees to 285 degrees would keep the opposite piston from being in BDC when the other piston is detonated while still keeping the two pistons firing order back-to-back closer than before making for one long pull every 4-strokes or 2. And that is why a 285 would be a more powerful engine for the same displacement and therefore a better-balanced engine! Also, a combustion cycle's power does not last 90 degrees, more around 75 degrees. What is 360 degrees - 75 degrees? 285 degrees!

Regardless of power and stoichiometry, and RPMs and ethanol goo... All it took was one time dropping my tractor in the woods and flooding the carb to clue me in. Starter wore out the battery. Oh well, it was a nice Pacific Northwest day to push my bike up a long grade to bump start it going down the other side. That was an aha moment about liking injection a whole lot. As always, great content, fun watch.

I have put the 404 on my 70’s and 80’ metric bikes. Pulled night dragon off the scout cause Pat 65mph it was hunting. Balance was fine but putting commander III on the bike cured the hunting. Not a wobble but a random sis to side motion. All good now with the Commander III. At non highway speeds there were no issues with the Night Dragons though,

People die with a helmet on, because it will not protect from directly hitting the back of the car at 70mph... why wear a helmet? 😁 Yeah - I am riding offroad and I like the lower probability of bruising my knees or elbows from almost no speed falling on stones, or branches. I think sliding(are you lucky) on asphalt is also much more pleasant with some pads, proper boots and a helmet.

My fix is to have a carabiner with the key rings attached to the bottom already. I attach the keys that I don’t need for the ignition to this carabiner. Then I have another separate unattached key ring strictly for the ignition. The ignition key ring is clipped on the carabiner, then when I actually ride I unclip the ignition key ring then clip the carabiner with the rest of the keys to my belt loop. When I’m done riding. Simply slide the ignition onto the carabiner on the belt loop and we’re good to go.

You're like the guy who says "you can always see your nose but your brains just don't register it" now it's annoying because you're now self conscious and will always think of it. You don't want people to think about it but you make people thinking about it more

As a mechanic it's a downgrade. Has two drain plugs and instead of one, last year's spin off oil filter at the bottom, is now internal and half way up the motor on the right side. So, it's going to vomit on itself when you change it like an old F650. Led lights in the hand guards will be broken for big bucks every other off rode ride. And the mirrors stalks are now hollow and have a wire for the blind spot/collision warning in them so they will break off for big bucks every drop. But that's just first impressions. The upgraded forged alloys and the front Brembo's do look mint though.

It is simple Mother Nature that the more material/product you put between you and the road, the less the road will damage your skin and/or bones. There is always an impact breaking point of human body parts but that is not what putting more material/plastic between you and the road is designed to protect. They are not impact reducers. They are there to reduce the amount of skin and bone removed from your body. Every motorcycle rider should always wear protective gear which includes body/extremity armor just in case they hit some marbles and go down for example. Plus thicker layered clothing for temperature control as well in the high wind environment. IMHO

Amazing video, dare I say 'the best yet?' Well in any case they keep getting better and this was a great presentation, well done. So what I get to take out of this is it's the best designed bike on the market, with too much technology for the sake of technology. I applaud BMW but won't buy one, not only because I'll have to work and extra year or two to pay for it, but because I don't need or want that much tech...
